Transactional Analysis (TA)

Transactional analysis (TA), usually a longer term therapy, is an integrative approach to psychotherapy incorporating aspects of humanistic, cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic therapy.

The term transactional analysis refers analysing how people communicate and relate to each other. It is based on Eric Berne’s theory of ego states – Parent, Adult and Child – and how we interact in these three different states to shape our internal world and our behaviour. These ego states are often developed in the past and re-created in the present, maintaining old and unhelpful patterns, which can be brought into awareness and made available for change.
