Loneliness is a sensation that we all feel at certain points in our lives. For many it doesn’t last and only appears in certain situations, however others may feel lonely most of the time.
While not a mental health disorder in itself, feeling lonely can have a massive impact on health, happiness and well-being and it can be responsible for bringing about stress, anxiety and depression.
Being alone is not the same as loneliness as many of us need our ‘alone time’ and this is a positive thing. Loneliness is not out of choice but results from being disconnected from others.
If you are feeling lonely then speaking to an expert counsellor can really help. It will allow you to connect with someone and feel supported, it is ok to feel this way its not your fault and support is available.
Counselling will also help especially if you have a coexisting mental health condition. They will be able to give you strategies to support you in your life and work out ways of managing it and help you get out and about to meet people.
