What are Phobias?

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder that causes extreme anxiety and panic and which is triggered by a particular situation (such as going outside) or an object (such as a spider) even when there is no danger.

Many of us have fears about certain situations and objects which is totally normal but this can become a phobia when the fear is out of proportion to the danger and it lasts more than six months with a significant impact on your day to day life.

Ways you can treat Phobias

Using techniques such as Exposure Therapy in CBT a therapist can gradually increase the level of exposure to your fear which in turn allows you to gain control over the phobia and in time feel less anxious about it.
